You Deserve Comfortable Vision

Our lives are dominated by digital devices. However, overuse can sometimes lead to dry, irritated, and uncomfortable eyes.

Our team of eye care specialists are here to help you find solutions so that you can get back to comfortably enjoying your computer, phone, tablet, or television.

If you believe you’re experiencing digital eye strain, give us a call today! We’re happy to help you find the eye comfort you deserve.

What Causes Digital Eye Strain?

Despite the name “digital eye strain,” the symptoms aren’t exactly caused by the devices themselves; they’re caused by focusing on close objects over long periods with very little or no breaks.

When you focus your eyes, you tend to blink less than usual. When this happens, your eyes don’t get the nutrients and tears they need to stay comfortable, leading to redness and irritation. These symptoms may only last for a few moments, but continued use of digital devices can cause this issue to occur more frequently.

What Can We Do to Manage Your Symptoms?

Even though digital eye strain may be uncomfortable or annoying, symptoms can be relatively minor. We can help you find the right strategies you need to get back to using your devices comfortably, including:

Eye Drops / Artificial Tears

Eye drops and artificial tears are some of the most common ways to manage digital eye strain. We can offer a range of products curated for your needs. We can also provide prescriptions for medicated eye drops.

Please speak to our doctors before you use any over-the-counter (OTC) products so we can ensure they are safe for you to use.

The 20/20/20 rule is a simple exercise you can perform anywhere to find momentary eye comfort. Every 20 minutes, spend 20 seconds looking at something about 20 feet away (6 metres).

This exercise gives your eyes time to blink and readjust before you get back to the task at hand.

You can also adjust the way you sit at your desk to manage digital eye strain symptoms. Some tips you can use include:

  • Adjusting the brightness of your screen to match the room.
  • Minimizing glare from your screen by angling your monitor away from direct light.
  • Positioning your screen at arm’s length and 20 degrees below eye level.
  • Sitting so your feet are resting flat on the floor.
